Responding Now to Global Challenges
Energy in transition for a living planet

The theme for WEC Montreal 2010 reflects the undeniable sense of urgency that faces the world's energy sector. More energy is needed from now until 2020, with prices rising significantly, while world energy demand is expected to double by 2050. One third of the world population does not yet benefit from reliable energy supply. The energy industry is faced with overwhelming environmental, social and political acceptability. In short, the situation is more challenging than ever.

Responding Now...

  • Dynamic, action and solution oriented
  • Depicts sense of urgency

... to Global Challenges

  • Evokes WEC's objectives toward expanding accessibility, increasing availability, and improving acceptability
  • Integration of regional and international energy markets
  • Including developing countries
  • Touches everyone – industry, government & civil society

Energy in transition...

  • Captures the new reality which requires an unprecedented level of cooperation between industry & government
  • Works towards responsible growth that takes into account new realities (emerging economic giants such as China, Brazil and India)
  • Evokes diversity and complexity of challenges; need for nothing less of a full-scale reinvention

... for a living planet

  • Evolving needs of human community
  • Oriented towards the environment
  • Mobilizing and gathering
  • Optimistic, positive image of the future, for everyone

With this situation in mind, the World Energy Council has set its 2008-2010 business goals & objectives accordingly : work toward responsible growth that reconciles economic development, environmental protection, and the reduction of global inequalities.
