Stéphane Bertrand, Executive Director of the World Energy Congress, is pleased to announce that an agreement has been concluded with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). WEC Montreal 2010 will partner with the Toward Low Carbon and Climate Change Resilient Territories Program set up by the UNDP. Headquartered in New York, UNDP will be responsible for receiving and administering the WEC Montreal monetary contribution to set up the program, which has a private sector oriented energy component.
The UNDP is one of the main UN poverty reduction initiatives. One of the organization’s more pressing tasks is to facilitate strategic integration of development initiatives at the national level. Through the programs created by it, the UNDP helps countries take up ecology and energy related challenges by putting them in contact with major partners.
WEC Montreal 2010 is a responsible organization that seeks to adhere to the principles of sustainable development by reducing the environmental impact of its activities in a process of continuous improvement. The agreement with the UNDP is just one of the efforts being made by WEC Montreal 2010 to meet the criteria of an event that respects the environment and its sustainable growth.
