His visit to Daegu was preceded by a stop in Seoul for a press event that received considerable attention from the major media in the capital. The fact that the event was attended by Younghoon David Kim, Chairman and CEO of Daesung Group and WEC Regional Vice Chair, Asia Pacific and East, and Chong Moo Lee, President and CEO, Daegu City Gas and WEC Regional Manager for Asia, indicates how important the 2013 Congress in Daegu is for the entire Korean community.
In Daegu, Mr. Bertrand gave a presentation to WEC members from Asia, stressing the fact that the Montreal Congress comes at a crucial point in time, nine (9) months after the UN Conference on Climate Change (COPXV), and just a few weeks away from the G8 summit. He also emphasized the importance of having a strong Asian presence at the Montreal Congress in 2010, which precedes the 2013 Congress in Daegu.
The annual WEC Asia Regional Meeting was held in conjunction with a major exposition on green energies at the EXCO building. More than 700 exhibitors from 300 companies in 21 different countries were represented—a more than 50% increase in participation over the 2008 edition. A total of 37,000 visitors took part in the event.
This visit exemplifies the friendly relations and collaboration between WEC Montreal 2010 and the Daegu 2013 organizers, who combine efforts and pool information to ensure the success of both congresses.
